About Oddballs and Sundry Skeins

We specialize in 100% Unique Yarns

The small batch, handcrafted nature of our yarn means that each batch will possess subtle differences. The yarns are dyed in small batches here in our Chicago studio. Because of the nature of our process from the sheep’s back to your hands, you may find small amounts of vegetable matter in the yarn which should be easily removed as you work. Our process creates slight variations in color, so we recommend alternating skeins for larger projects.

Our skeins are hand-dyed using acid dyes and a semi solid "kettledye" process that produces tonal and expressive colors. This creates a yarn suitable for many types of projects. We use a low chemical process to scour and spin the wool, this means you may occasionally find small bits of vegetable matter in our yarn. Additionally, there may be some color bleed in the yarns first wash. If you plan to do color-work with our yarn, we recommend washing it beforehand.  While some of the breeds we use are harder to felt/full than others, none of our yarn is superwash treated. Unless your intention is a felted project, please wash in cold water with minimal agitation.
